The collision happened on Norton’s Junction Road just before 6am today (Saturday July 30). Police and other emergency services attended the scene from 5.47am this morning. The collision involved two vehicles, a blue Land Rover Freelander and a blue Nissan Qashqai. The 20-year-old driver of the vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A spokesman said it was believed the vehicle was being driven on the wrong side of the road at “excessive speed”. A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: “Unfortunately, a male passenger in the Land Rover Freelander has lost his life. “The man has not yet been formally identified so police are not releasing any further details at this time, but specially trained officers are offering support to his family. “The driver of the Land Rover Freelander, a 20-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. “At the time of the collision the Land Rover Freelander is believed to have been traveling westbound, at excessive speed and on the wrong side of the road, where it then collided with the Qashqai.” To get more stories from Teesside straight to your email basket, go here Officers investigating the circumstances are appealing for anyone who may have seen the collision in Junction Road to contact them.
