The beast killed Verriest while her husband was out of the house, who returned to find the dog dragging her body across their yard. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services at the couple’s home in Nassau County, New York, on Wednesday. “The scene was pretty horrific,” Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said at a news conference. “We don’t know what time the attack took place, but apparently there was a lot of mutilation of the body, legs and face,” he added. The mutt was shot dead by police after attacking officers when they arrived at the gruesome scene in Long Island, New York. The police officer who shot the pit bull is referred for treatment after being traumatized by the flesh-eating dog. Ryder said: “The officer saw something that was very traumatic, we take care of our officers and make sure they are OK.” Despite the gruesome attack, there have been no previous reports of problems with the pit bull, according to the Nassau County SPCA. Ryder said: “We don’t know what turned the dog on or why the dog turned on the woman. “There were no previous domestic calls to the home or calls about the dog.” Speaking to CBS News, a neighbor described how the pit bull was incredibly strong and recalled seeing the dog being walked by its former owner. They said: “When he was alive he walked [the dog] with both hands holding the leash. “That dog was leading him.” 4 The pit bull belonged to Marina’s stepson, who died tragically in a motorcycle accident just two weeks before the attackCredit: nbc4
