Winnipeg Police Officers landed in the downtown area at about 8:30 p.m. They arrested 50-year-old Travis McLeod without incident after searching for him for three days, the RCMP said in a press release.
McLeod was wanted on three counts of second-degree murder and arson after the bodies of his 32-year-old wife and their two children – a six-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy – were found. at a house in Portage la Prairie last Sunday morning by fire crews.
Shortly after the fire, McLeod was arrested and charged with assaulting another family member, but was released. At the time, the RCMP did not have enough evidence to hold McLeod in custody in connection with the killings and fires.
As the investigation into the fire and the family’s death progressed, evidence emerged that led police to believe McLeod was responsible, the RCMP said.
