A man who previously complained that he had a pedophile for a neighbor has been convicted of pedophilia. Darren Heim has been jailed for subjecting a child to years of abuse from the age of seven to 11. The abuse ranged from kissing and touching the child to forcing him to have sex on more than one occasion. The 53-year-old had once complained to his local newspaper that he was furious that his housing association did not tell him that his neighbor was a convicted pedophile. His own insult was identified when he was spotted with the victim, prosecutor David Watson told the Liverpool Crown Court. Mr Watson said the person who saw them felt something was “wrong” and so contacted social services. The victim later told her mom that she had been sexually abused by Higham for “centuries”. He also told them how he asked her not to tell anyone about the abuse, as that would mean they would send him to jail. The injured girl said she sometimes pretended to be tired and fell asleep in an attempt to stop Hayham’s abuse. When police approached Hayham for the alleged offenses, he injured himself and was hospitalized, insisting he had no sexual interest in children. But he later confessed to the abuse, saying “something triggered” inside him. Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Officer Chris Ormey of the Cheshire Police said: “I hope the sentence will close the victim a little. “This young man showed great courage by appearing to report what had happened.” “This ultimately meant that Darren Heiham could be brought to justice, where he pleaded guilty to these heinous crimes.” In 1999, Hayham told his local newspaper that he would never have moved into the house if he had known about his neighbor’s past and demanded that he be relocated.

Defendant Gary Lawrenson said that before his offense, Higham was a man of good character. He told the court that the accused has shown sincere remorse and is willing to participate in any work with the audit services. Mr Lawrenson said: “He does not seek to minimize his actions in any way, shape or form.” Hayham wrote in a letter to the court: “There are no words to say how much destruction and remorse I feel. “I stand before you accepting any punishment you deem appropriate.” Contact our news team by emailing us at [email protected] For more stories like this, check out our news page.
