Manchester United have agreed a £15m deal with Juventus to sign Adrien Rabiot, according to reports.
Rabiot, who has fallen out of favor at Juventus and has just one year left on his deal, will join United if the interested parties agree personal terms, according to a report in The Sun.
With just one year remaining on his current Juventus deal, the France international is available on a cut-price deal and is said to be keen on a move away from Turin.
Manchester United have reportedly agreed a £15m fee for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
Juventus signed Rabiot on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 with the midfielder deciding, in collaboration with his mother Veronique, that his prospects were in better hands away from the French capital.
The Frenchman struggled to live up to the early promise of his Juventus career and his time in Turin coincided with the club relinquishing the Serie A title.
United, should they sign the player, will be getting a talented midfielder, but one who has a reputation within the game for being a difficult customer in the dressing room.
This is partly due to the notoriety bestowed upon his mother, who clashed with figures within the game during her son’s career.
The club now face a battle to land the player and must negotiate with the player’s tough mother
Veronique is representing Rabiot and is said to have clashed with the star’s team-mates and sporting directors, as well as asking to meet managers and attend training sessions to ensure her son was treated and tended to correctly.
She had previously asked to go on a pre-season tour when her son signed his first professional form at PSG, while she was partly responsible for his drop in the reserves at the same club due to wage demands.
She would claim for that incident that her son was being held ‘hostage’ by the club and this was tantamount to him soon being in ‘jail’ and being fed only ‘bread and water’.
Erik ten Haag saw his tenure as United boss off to the worst possible start on Sunday afternoon at home to Brighton.
A move to Spain in 2018 didn’t happen due to salary demands.
United’s critics have said the Rabiot move amounts to panic at the club as the transfer window enters its final stages.
The club lost the opening game of the 2022-23 season and Erik ten Haag was the first in charge, at home to Brighton. Many fans have called for a reshuffle of United’s midfield, with the club chasing Frankie de Jong throughout the summer at the expense of other targets.
Rabiot is not seen as an alternative to De Jong as the club still hope they can land the Dutchman.
