The Patron – or Bullet in English – is a two-year-old dog working in the Chernihiv region, north of Kiev, to ward off the threat of unexploded ordnance. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said hundreds of devices had been left behind by Russian forces as they withdrew from northern Ukraine. “As it retreats, Russian military personnel are setting traps that are prohibited by international law, even in food establishments, private homes and human corpses,” he said earlier this month.
