Micah Richards couldn’t resist making a joke about Roy Keane after Erling Haaland’s performance on Sunday.
The Norwegian striker marked his Premier League debut for Manchester City in style, scoring a goal as Pep Guardiola’s side beat West Ham 2-0.
Haaland’s father Alfe-Inge was in the stands at the London Stadium and Richards joked about his long-running feud with Keane.
Micah Richards couldn’t help but tease his friend Roy Keane after Erling Haaland’s brace
Keane ended the career of Erling’s father Alfie Haaland with a horror tackle in 2001
Discussing Haaland’s performance in their post-match analysis on Sky Sports, former England Women’s international Karen Carney explained how Haaland becomes a great player because of her genes.
He said: “We checked earlier, his mum is also an athlete and we know what his dad has done in his history. It will be an absolute specimen.’
Presenter David Jones then interrupted, asking: “What did his dad do?” prompting Richards to say, “Wait for Roy there before. I’ve never seen Roy so nervous, to be honest.’
Qin then smiled and joked, “I think he said to wait for me there!”
During a clash between Manchester United and Manchester City in 2001, Keane ended Haaland’s senior career with a crunching knee tackle that saw him receive a red card, a three-match ban and a £5000 fine.
Keane went on to admit that he committed the foul deliberately and as a result received an additional five-match ban and a £150,000 fine
The pair’s feud had started four years earlier when the Norwegian, who was playing for Leeds at the time, stood over Keane and verbally abused him when the then United star was in agony following a serious knee injury.
Keane’s words about the incident have become almost as infamous as the tackle.
He wrote in his autobiography: “I have waited long enough. I hit him hard. The ball was there (I think). Take that f***. And don’t ever stand over me taunting about fake injuries.”
Erling Haaland hit a brace on his Premier League debut in City’s win over West Ham.
Despite their row, Keane praised his son’s performance against West Ham, saying: “Haaland gives them a different option.
“City’s passing and the way they wore down West Ham, which are not cups. They played with them. But even when teams press, Haaland will threaten back now.
“It will be a different challenge for the defenders now with Haaland running back. West Ham didn’t make it.’
