The blast struck the World Central Kitchen in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkov on Saturday, the Michelin-starred chef said. “The @WCKitchen team and our fellow Ukrainians are worried but safe after a rocket attack on a restaurant in Kharkov,” Andres wrote on Twitter. “Giving food in the midst of an irrational war is an act of courage, of resilience, of resistance; and we will continue to cook.” Nate Mook, chief executive of the nonprofit Kitchen, also confirmed the rocket attack and shared a video of burned cars, wreckage and other disasters in the neighborhood. “The @WCKitchen team and our fellow Ukrainians are anxious but safe,” said chef José Andrés.Mike Coppola / Getty Images for The Cove, Paradise Island “It simply came to our notice then. In this area, there are offices, there are residences. People live here. “People are working here, people are cooking here and it is absolutely horrible barbarism,” Mook said in the video. Although there were no casualties at the restaurant, Mook said they were “told one person was killed in the blast.” In a statement Sunday, Mook said the injured were “doing well” and that the team wanted to continue providing food to people displaced by the war.
