Ottawa firefighters received a call to the fire just before 10:30 p.m. Fire crews and paramedics responded to the scene. The fire started in a linen dryer in the center’s kitchen laundry Friday night, Annabelle Cloutier, a spokeswoman for the NAC, said in an email to CBC News. “The fire was extinguished and did not spread any further,” Cloutier said. One employee, a 51-year-old man, went into cardiac arrest due to smoke inhalation, according to Ottawa paramedics. Paramedics at the scene tried to reverse the effects of smoke inhalation and took him to the hospital, the agency said. As of Saturday morning, the man is recovering and the NAC hopes he will be released from the hospital soon, Cloutier said. The causes of the fire have not yet been determined. No shows were affected by the fire and scheduled performances will continue as scheduled this weekend, Cloutier said, adding that 1 Elgin Restaurant will also be open for dinner.
