Jean was taken into custody following the alleged attack and remains in Union County Jail, according to prosecutors. He does not yet have a lawyer, but he is scheduled to appear in court on April 19, UCPO’s public relations officer Michael Sits told CNN. Jean is accused of falling over the female victim with his car before putting her back and deliberately falling her a second time. Witnesses say the attack took place after Jean and the woman were involved in an accident and Jean tried to escape from the scene, according to a joint statement by the prosecutor and Elizabeth police chief. The woman started taking pictures of Jean’s car “so she could identify him with police”, after which Jean allegedly drove his car directly against her, the prosecutor said. Jean allegedly left the scene and was found later Tuesday morning sitting alone in his parked, damaged SUV. Security footage from a house on the block where the incident took place shows a man allegedly Jean driving outside the frame before returning to the frame 30 seconds later. A little while later, Jean is said to reverse the vehicle and turn to hit the victim, chasing him on the grass. After losing her, Jean allegedly goes out into the street, makes a three-point turn and then further chases the victim on the grass. Trying to get away from the SUV, the victim appears to stumble and the vehicle falls down. He then appears to be reversing above her and driving above her for the last time before fleeing. The woman victim was found by police who responded shortly after 8:30 on Tuesday morning “lying on the front grass of a house … suffering from many serious injuries,” prosecutors said. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but her condition has been stable since Thursday, according to Elizabeth City Hall Public Information Officer Ruby Contreras.
