Another amazing start by Alec Manoas. It’s fun to watch (I guess every pitcher is fun to watch when they go great). Today he made 6 appearances, allowed 4 hits, 2 walks, 2 wins, with 6 hits. He left a home run by Stephen Vogt and got a hit, but was almost in control in his 6 innings. We could not score more than one in a row in the attack, and that hurt. We should have had more routes. We scored: 1 in the first: Springer reached a mistake by Sheldon Neuse and went third in Bo Bichette’s single (get hustle by Springer) and a Lourdes Gurriel fly brought Springer home. 1 in the second: Jacques Collins led with a double (Collins was a nice pickup so far) and Santiago Espinal only put him at home. We should have scored more. Kirk walked in, and Cavan replaced him at first in a forced out, but Springer knocked out and his home referee Shane Livingstone called in a Biggio steal in catcher intervention. It was a weird call, as Vogt did not finish second (he did not want the third runner to score). It was weird. I thought, in the worst case, Biggio would send back to the first base, but no such luck. 1 in the third: With two outs, Guriel makes a double and Matt Chapman singled him out at home. 1 in the fifth: Gurriel started the inning with a single. Chapman hit a ball on the ground, but Kevin Smith threw it wildly in the second and Garriel scored in the game. That was about scoring. We had 7 hits and 5 walks, but lately there has been a power outage. more runs would be nice. At the bottom of the eighth, with Springer on the plate, Santiago Espinal was caught stealing second, finishing the inning. I’m not a big fan of stealing in front of a guy who can hit. The bullfight did the job. It would have been an easier job if we had scored more:
Tim Mayza took four outs without allowing a baserunner. He had 2 blows. Adam Cimber, who entered with an out, had a bigger problem, left 2 hits and one run. Jordan Romano took ninth, rebounded number 6 (in Jayce’s victory number 6). A big win would be nice, give Romanos a break maybe.
Jays of the Day: Chapman (0.172 WPA), Manoah (0.135), Mayza (0.108) and Romano (0.163). Suckage: Vlad (-.099, for 0 for 4 to 3 hits). In the beginning, Vlad is either amazing or he goes 0 for. The Jays have a break tomorrow and then go to Boston for three games with the Red Sox. Kevin Gausman climbs the TBD again in the first game. I think Bo and Lourdes deserve an honorable mention. Jace is 6-4 after 10 games. They may not shoot at all cylinders, but they are still first in the AL East. Here are some Jays news:
Hyun Jin Ryu has been placed in IL with pain in the forearm. Ryan Borouki takes his place in the roster. And Buck Martinez had his last game on the stand at the moment. He announced that he has cancer and says that he is curable, but he will be away from the group to get treatment. I can only wish him the best and fastest recovery.
