The Calgary Fire Department was called to the scene at a home in Woodfield Crescent SW shortly after noon on Friday.
When the crews arrived, they found smoke coming out of the basement of the two-story house and worked quickly to contain the fire.
“They did it very quickly,” said District Chief Martin Keefe. “They started with a transient attack from outside. It was fully involved, so there was no entrance at first, but as we arrived after the fire, we were able to get in and check further.”
The owners of the house were not inside when the fire broke out and no one was injured.
The cause is being investigated.
