Toronto police said there were “several” injuries after a head-on collision was reported at Steeles Avenue and Reesor Road, on the border between Scarborough and Markham, late Monday night.
Injuries ranged from serious to life-threatening, police initially said.
Toronto paramedics said they received a call about the crash around 10:25 p.m
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, rescuers later confirmed, while two others were seriously injured.
Toronto Paramedics said they transported a man in his 20s to a trauma center with serious injuries, while York Regional Paramedics transported another patient to a local hospital in serious condition.
At least one vehicle was set on fire after the crash and Toronto Fire was also called to the scene.
The intersection has been closed as police investigate.
So far there is no information on what caused the fatal collision.
