Around 3:30 a.m., an unauthorized vehicle entered the front gates but was unable to enter due to security barriers. According to the police, the damage to the gate is minimal. The Ottawa Police Service said in a news release that an officer was nearby when the incident occurred and was able to arrest the driver without incident. The investigation is ongoing and, according to police, charges are pending. The crash was one of two strange incidents in downtown Ottawa on Wednesday morning. Later on Wednesday morning, an amphibious tour bus crashed into the fence at 24 Sussex Drive, the prime minister’s unoccupied official residence.
