One person was killed and five others were injured – four seriously – when two vehicles collided on the east side of Highway 417 near the Casselman exit shortly after 4pm on Friday.

One of the two vehicles veered off the road and hit a tree, Ontario provincial police said Friday night. The death of the adult passenger was confirmed at the scene, the IPP said, while the other four occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital. The only passenger of the second vehicle was slightly injured, it is added in a media bulletin. Due to the investigation by the traffic collision department of OPP, the 417 freeway to the east remained closed on Friday afternoon between the 66 and 79 mile markers.
