2022-08-03T15:22:28.775Z Many of the OxygenOS 13 features we’ve been hearing about are actually Android 13 that OnePlus has tweaked, such as Nearby Share for sharing files with people nearby, as well as more security tools. 2022-08-03T15:18:37.768Z This event lasts so, so long. How long does it take to update us on a single phone and a small software update? This OxygenOS 13 component in particular looks horribly spread out. 2022-08-03T15:15:19.710Z
(Image credit: OnePlus) Here’s an example of what OxygenOS 13 will look like, with some examples of different apps and the main menu. 2022-08-03T15:14:11.811Z OnePlus is mixing up its metaphors a bit here. Apparently scrolling through software is like breathing ‘ie. Oxygen OS’, but also to flow like water. What is OnePlus, water or breath? 2022-08-03T15:10:43.770Z Apparently OxygenOS 13, which is based on Android 13, has an “aquamorphic design” or is based on water… whatever that means.
(Image credit: OnePlus) We’ve seen some themed ads for it, but no real examples of how Oxygen OS 13 looks compared to OS 12. However, we have heard that it will have a different color scheme, as it is based on Klein Blue (a very blue kind of blue). 2022-08-03T15:04:08.822Z It sounds like the phone’s launch is wrapping up—time, too, because we’ve been looking at the same device for an hour—but now we’re moving on to the software. Specifically, we’re hearing about OxygenOS 13. 2022-08-03T15:00:53.325Z OnePlus is moving on to the design now, another thing we know (it looks a lot like the OnePlus 10 Pro).
(Image credit: OnePlus) It has a unibody design, so the camera bump isn’t a separate part – it just extends from the back. There are two color versions, black and light green, and the black has a grippy texture. 2022-08-03T14:54:00.586Z
(Image credit: OnePlus) The above are camera samples taken on OnePlus phones over the years (not the 10T). The cameras on this phone are a 50MP main, an 8MP ultra-wide and… a few extra macro lenses, the latter doesn’t sound great. 2022-08-03T14:51:25.508Z They’ve confirmed the display’s specs, which we didn’t know (apart from that brief slide earlier). It’s a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz display that shows over a billion colors but has a rather limited maximum brightness of 950 nits. Next, we move on to the cameras. 2022-08-03T14:48:38.708Z This is quite a technical launch and not all of it is exciting or interesting. But our US editor appreciates the surround video situation going on at OnePlus, which obviously makes the in-person event more interesting. Wraparound screen work is A+ #OnePlus10T pic.twitter.com/tT2YjotgT2 August 3, 2022 See more 2022-08-03T14:44:28.944Z We’re also hearing about OnePlus’ Smart Charging, which uses artificial intelligence to adapt to your charging schedule – a few other brands have similar things, like Google for its Pixels. The phone can adjust to your climate temperature and schedule to moderate how quickly the phone turns on. 2022-08-03T14:40:07.508Z OnePlus told everyone before the event that the phone will have a 4,800mAh battery and 150W charging, and is discussing it in more detail right now. 2022-08-03T14:38:02.762Z With all this processing talk, let’s see if OnePlus decides to discuss the controversial processing restriction practices we saw in 2021… Oh no, we proceeded to charge. 2022-08-03T14:35:11.772Z They talk a bit more about gaming – clearly performance is a bit part of the OnePlus 10T. But if they’re spending so much to talk up processing speed – keep in mind we’re already up to 30m at the conference – what are they skimping on? Cameras? We think they are cameras. 2022-08-03T14:31:17.591Z OnePlus says that if you buy the 16GB RAM version of the 10T, it can keep 30 apps open at the same time…? I’m not sure about you, but I don’t think I even have 35 apps on my phone, so that seems a bit excessive. But hey, there might be one or two of you out there jumping between so many apps at any given time, so maybe it’s useful. 2022-08-03T14:29:35.826Z Apparently OnePlus has designed a case that keeps the phone cool:
(Image credit: OnePlus) Looking at those gaps and vents, it sounds like this could be pretty…cool? I don’t really know how it works, to be honest, but it looks interesting. But will it keep this phone cooler than just removing the case? We’ll have to see. 2022-08-03T14:25:49.076Z One issue we find with the Snapdragon 8 series chipsets is that they heat up incredibly quickly when playing games, and this is something that OnePlus is dealing with right now. Apparently the OnePlus 10T has improved cooling systems to keep it cool, which apparently took 18 months to develop. It’s all a bit technical, but the bottom line is this: the OnePlus 10T shouldn’t be too toasty. 2022-08-03T14:22:30.224Z Now we get some boring stats on how the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 improved on… something. Probably 8 Gen 1, possibly 888 Plus, not clear. Either way, these are all sound bites like “20% faster” or “15% faster”, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll feel any different in your hand – that’s something we’ll only be able to feel during duration of the test. so wait for our review on it. 2022-08-03T14:20:45.925Z
(Image credit: OnePlus) OnePlus wasted no time in sharing basically all of its new phone’s specs — admittedly showing off most of them beforehand. There are a few things missing – camera sensors for one and design specs for another – but it’s a pretty comprehensive list. 2022-08-03T14:17:32.274Z Now we see a video that OnePlus shared on its YouTube channel a few days ago, about the history of the new features that OnePlus phones have brought. It’s here (opens in new tab) if you want to check it out, called “fast and smooth”. 2022-08-03T14:13:56.129Z “We hear you loud and clear” OnePlus has been criticized by fans for losing its way a bit, and that’s definitely something we’ve noticed fans of the brand complaining about. Hopefully the OnePlus 10T will address this. 2022-08-03T14:11:42.198Z
(Image credit: OnePlus) Oh look, it’s us! (read: it’s me!). 2022-08-03T14:09:00.014Z And finally it started! The CEO of OnePlus America is on stage
(Image credit: OnePlus) The company’s CEO Pete Lau is not in attendance, but a pre-recorded message from him is being broadcast for the global OnePlus community. 2022-08-03T14:04:57.934Z Surprisingly, the event hasn’t started yet – it sounds like the organizers are quickly grabbing more chairs for the physical attendees. 2022-08-03T13:58:01.221Z Here’s a view from inside the convention center itself – if you’re watching the stream, it looks rather small, but as it turns out it’s much bigger. I love this part #OnePlus10T pic.twitter.com/OkeTmGh3fd August 3, 2022 See more 2022-08-03T13:54:03.281Z We also see footage of people filing into a conference room to see the launch — this one is in New York, where OnePlus is hosting a physical launch. Let’s see if we can track down the US editor, who is at the event in person. 2022-08-03T13:48:48.868Z And we started! About
(Image credit: OnePlus) Live video streaming has begun, although the event itself has not. We just see the above logo with some repetitive music for now. But if you’re rushing to whip up a drink or snack before the event, maybe this pace will help you keep up. 2022-08-03T13:21:13.321Z The OnePlus 10T live stream has… only 400 people. Sure, the event hasn’t started yet, but we’re used to seeing thousands watching streams even this early. So maybe there is less interest in the 10T than we expected… 2022-08-03T13:06:53.987Z There’s an hour left until the launch, so hopefully the OnePlus live stream will start soon. 2022-08-03T11:58:38.521Z This year we also saw a couple of OnePlus Nord phones: the Nord 2T, the Nord CE 2 and the Nord CE 2 Lite. These are all relatively affordable phones, especially by the 10 Pro’s standards, designed for people who want a top-of-the-line feature or two, but without paying a hefty price tag. In China, the OnePlus Ace was launched, but that didn’t leave the country. 2022-08-03T11:37:09.059Z
(Image: Future) The OnePlus 10 Pro is one of our favorite phones of 2022 so far, so the 10T has some big boots to follow – although it doesn’t sound like it’s trying to emulate its bigger sibling. Rather it sounds like he is trying to offer an alternative version of himself. That’s why there’s no zoom camera, a seemingly flat screen and a smaller battery – it’s all about speed in this new phone, in terms of charging and performance. 2022-08-03T10:57:28.730Z The battery and charging information has already been confirmed, and we imagine it’s something that will be of great interest to the device. The power pack is 4,800mAh, which is pretty big, but the impressive spec here is the 150W charging. This isn’t the first phone with such fast charging speeds, but we’ve certainly yet to see one that runs faster, and we can expect to see the phone go from empty to full in less than 20 minutes. OnePlus will surely go into more detail about this at launch. 2022-08-03T10:28:16.213Z
(Image: Future) Another thing OnePlus confirmed is the absence of a notification slider, a popular feature of the company’s phones – you can see it on the edge of the OnePlus 10 Pro in the photo above. A notification slider is for easy switching between silent mode, vibrate mode or full volume mode for notifications without having to open your phone. You can easily turn it to silent when you enter a meeting or turn it off when you leave, without spending ages in menus. Like we said, it’s a popular OnePlus feature and fans are already upset with its removal. 2022-08-03T10:04:06.013Z Another camera tidbit we know about the OnePlus 10T is that it won’t feature the Hasselblad branding that previous OnePlus phones have had. This brand boasted that the traditional camera brand Hasselblad had contributed…
