By Jeff D’Andrea April 15, 2022 | 15:10 A fire destroyed the Monument to Senator Allen Byrd on Friday, one of the main meeting points of Prince Albert’s Grand Council (PAGC). Grand Chief Brian Hardlotte said the PAGC was “wrecked” after losing such an important building and main junction. “We are devastated to lose one of the most iconic buildings in Prince Albert’s Grand Council. “The building was named after our late elder and acclaimed veteran Senator Allan Bird of the Montreal Lake Cree Nation,” Hardlotte said in a statement. “It had a reputation as the main gathering place for many of our community events. But it was more than a meeting point. “It also represented the home of our government for our 12 member nations and was a place where we have honored many of our leaders over the years.” Vice President Joseph Channy said the center was used only on Thursday to donate Easter barriers to those in need.
