The city of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine suffered another day of heavy bombardment, according to regional officials. Oleg Synegubov, head of the Kharkiv regional administration, told the Telegram: “Today, in broad daylight, there were bombings in the central part of the city, the residential area of Saltivka by the MLRS [multiple rocket systems] and artillery. Both the towns of Bakhmut and Avdiivka are seen as key targets in Russia’s ongoing offensive in eastern Ukraine, with analysts saying Moscow must take Bakhmut if it is to advance on the regional hubs of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. “In the direction of Donetsk, the enemy is conducting an offensive operation, concentrating its main efforts in the directions of Bakhmut and Avdiivka. Russian forces appear to be heavily bombarding areas of all three areas before a planned ground offensive. If Russia takes control of the city, it will be a significant sign of progress as it expands from areas it already controls in the Donbas region to the Crimean peninsula, which it annexed in 2014.
Russia’s Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery, located in the Rostov region, was hit by two drones in June, after which production at both primary crude oil distillation units was suspended. The attack caused an explosion that burst into flames, Russian news agency TASS reported at the time, damaging the refinery’s crude oil tank. Russian police had said the drones were Ukrainian. Novoshakhtinsk has a capacity of up to 7.5 million tons per year, making it one of the largest oil refineries in southern Russia....

The Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation found that taxes would increase by $16.7 billion for American taxpayers making less than $200,000 in 2023 and raise another $14.1 billion for taxpayers making between $200,000 and $500,000. During the 10-year window, the average tax rate will increase for most income brackets, the Senate GOP said, citing data from the joint committee. And by 2031, the new energy credits and subsidies will force people earning less than $400,000 to pay as much as two-thirds of the additional tax revenue collected that year, the release said....
