Kevin Phillip, an experienced paraglider, posted the anxiety-inducing clip to YouTube on Monday, most of which was captured by his helmet cam.

In the video, Philipp can be seen falling rapidly from an undetermined height, spinning as he struggles with the blocked brake line. He becomes entangled in the wing of the paraglider and continues to fall until, seconds before hitting the ground, he is able to open his rescue pack and release an emergency parachute. Story continues below ad In the description of his YouTube video, Philipp seemed to imply that it was “strong turbulence” that caused the accident during his descent. “Vacation [sic] line stuck,” he wrote. “The drop on the lines and wing caused the rescue chute to fly quite hard. The rate of descent was greatly increased by the twisting of the wing.’ Philipp estimated that he was “1 second” away from hitting the ground before the emergency parachute opened.

“This was no day to die!” He wrote. “In acro paragliding we face many challenges [sic] and mistakes in learning the tricks,” explained Philipp. “With 2-3 rescue parachutes and a lot of height we can safely train this kind of sport.
