The female arctic wolf was rescued from a northern Ontario area, police said, and was pulled from her enclosure Tuesday morning.
Investigators say they have received numerous reported sightings near Main Street West and Cement Road and are trying to locate the animal.
They urge citizens not to look for the wolf.
“Forcing an interaction could cause a negative outcome for the human and the wolf,” the Niagara Police Department said in a news release issued Wednesday. “The wolf’s pressure could also make it run, making its capture more difficult.”
“The public in the area is cautioned to be aware of their personal safety and the safety of their pets.”
Anyone who sees the wolf is asked to contact the Niagara SPCA at 905-735-1552, extension three, or contact Niagara Police.
