The Summerland Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire Saturday morning near Garnet Lake. Emergency crews discovered two bodies in the wreckage of a burning vehicle on Garnet Valley Road outside Summerland on Saturday. The South East Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) took over the investigation after the bodies were found by the Summerland Fire Service. According to the RCMP, the Summerland RCMP were alerted to the presence of the bodies after the fire in the vehicle was extinguished on Saturday by the Fire Department. Officers attended and confirmed the report. Access to Garnet Lake was reported by a witness to be closed Saturday. The SED MCU will work with the Summerland Detachment, the Penticton Regional Detachment and the BC Coroner’s Service to determine what led to these deaths. Police are asking anyone with dashcam footage or observations of suspicious activity in the area of Garnet Valley Road since early Saturday morning to contact the Southeast District Major Crimes Unit at 1-877-987-8477.
