Hydro One says strong winds caused power lines to fall, broken poles and fallen trees on power lines on Friday, and many customers were left without power overnight. There have been approximately 17,500 unplugged Hydro One customers around eastern Ontario as of 8 a.m. Saturday. By 10 a.m., that number had dropped to just over 10,000 customers in the area. Estimated recovery times vary, but most customers can expect the power to be restored by Saturday afternoon, according to the utility. As of 7 a.m. Saturday, Hydro Ottawa had a shutdown that affected 14 customers near Munster. At 8 a.m., power was restored in the area. Hydro Quebec reported just over 4,500 customers without power in the Outaouais area around 7 a.m. Saturday. By 10:30 it was 3,500. The holidays canceled out a number of events throughout the region, including the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League and Central Canada Hockey League.
