Royal watchers and friends of Prince Charles’ youngest son have warned that the book will have to live up to Harry’s statement in order to maintain its credibility. An unnamed friend of the Duke’s, who reportedly knew him and his ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy, told the Daily Beast: ‘Harry was known to be very wild back then. “If he doesn’t address those wild years in some detail, the book will just be a giant blank slate – at least to those who knew him.” The Sun’s former royal editor Duncan Larcombe told the publication: “If he is to keep the book largely focused on his own journey, it needs to acknowledge – and try to understand – those dark, boozy years to have credibility .” She hailed the importance of working through feelings by being open and honest, adding: “I know there’s huge value in talking about your issues and the only thing about keeping it quiet is that it’s only going to make it worse.” . Since his party days, the sixth in line to the throne has had two children with wife Meghan Markle and founded the non-profit organization Archewell. He delivered a speech at the United Nations last month to mark International Nelson Mandela Day, which falls on the former South African president’s birthday. On the floor of the United Nations General Assembly, Harry spoke about the threats posed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, what he called the subversion of constitutional rights in the US and the “weaponization” of lies and disinformation. He warned: “We are witnessing a global assault on democracy and freedom – the cause of Mandela’s life.” Harry also spoke about a photograph taken in 1997 in Cape Town of his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales, and Mr Mandela. The Duke said: “When I first looked at the photograph, immediately, what jumped out was the joy on my mother’s face. The playfulness, the cheekiness even the sheer delight of being in communion with another soul, so devoted to service of humanity.” He went on to describe Africa as a lifeline, adding: “It’s where I felt closest to my mother and sought solace after her death and where I knew I found a soulmate in my wife.”
