The plane – CJ3 Plus 2020 Citation – was landing on one of the airport runways when a strong crosswind prevented the plane from landing on the runway soon enough, according to Fairfield Police Department, which responded to the scene. After traveling for a while on the treadmill, continue to a grassy area before finally stopping in the sewer stream. All three men on board – including the pilot, a co-pilot and the owner of the plane – were not injured. The three were trying to get off the plane when the correspondents arrived, police said. “We are very pleased that no one was injured as a result of this incident,” Fairfield Police Chief Anthony G. Mana said in a statement. The plane is currently leaking aircraft fuel into the creek, police said. The Nutley Fire Department’s hazardous materials unit was developed at the scene to help the Fairfield Fire Department reduce the leak. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were both informed of the accident, according to police.
