A large crowd has gathered at the Consulate of Pakistan, outside the Canal Road, after the overthrow of Khan after a vote of no confidence. Protesters are waving Pakistani flags as well as the flag of Azad Kashmir, the region of the South Asian country where the vast majority of British-Pakistanis in Bradford can also trace their roots. Those at the rally also carry the flag of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Khan’s political party. There are reports of traffic jams on Shipley Airedale and Canal Road due to the protest. Former Pakistan’s Cricket World Cup winner Khan ousted the country’s leadership after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of opposition parties and said it had acted unconstitutionally. Proponents of her case have been working to make the actual transcript of this statement available online.
