The OnePlus 10T will be announced on August 3, and ahead of the launch, OnePlus has revealed key details about the phone’s battery and charging specifications. Fast charging has been one of the flagship features of OnePlus smartphones for years. In 2016, when the OnePlus 3 was launched, one of the selling points of the phone was its fast charging technology. OnePlus even coined the tagline “A day’s power in half an hour” based on the feature. This meant owners could charge their device for half an hour and get enough charge to last a day of use. Since then, OnePlus has continued to improve the fast charging technology available on its phones, especially on its flagship and upper mid-range models. The OnePlus Ace and the OnePlus 10R are currently the fastest charging OnePlus smartphones as they both support 150W fast charging. What you need to know In typical OnePlus fashion, the manufacturer has revealed a handful of details about its upcoming phone. A forum post revealed that the OnePlus 10T will have a 4800mAh battery capacity, which is a bit smaller than the OnePlus 10 Pro’s 5000mAh battery. In addition, the North American version of the phone will support 125W SUPERVOOC Endurance Edition fast charging, allowing owners to charge the smartphone from empty to 100% in just 20 minutes. That’s significantly faster than the OnePlus 10 Pro, which has a 5000mAh battery and supports 80W fast charging. However, the North American model of the phone supports 65W fast charging, no thanks to power throttling.
The international version charges faster
At 125W, the OnePlus 10T will be one of the fastest charging smartphones sold in the United States. Competing devices like the Galaxy S22 Ultra and ROG Phone 6 Pro support 45W and 65W fast charging, respectively, which pales in comparison to what the OnePlus 10T offers. Additionally, the phone will come with a SUPERVOOC 160W charger and a USB-C charging cable. The power supply will have support for power delivery (PD), allowing it to be used to charge other devices such as laptops that support USB PD.
Just like the OnePlus 10 Pro, the OnePlus 10T will have an international version that charges a bit faster. This variant will support 150W SUPERVOOC Endurance Edition fast charging. However, there isn’t a significant difference as OnePlus says the international version will fully charge from 1 to 100 percent in just 19 minutes, one minute less than the North American version takes to fully charge. OnePlus explained that the discrepancy is because the 150W SUPERVOOC Endurance Edition technology only supports 220V and above, which makes it unable to work in the US, where outlets are labeled 110V or 120V. However, when North American users use their phones in areas that support 220V, they will be able to charge at 150W.
Security is a major concern with fast charging, and OnePlus seems to have that base covered. The manufacturer says a proprietary technology called ‘Battery Health Engine’ provides two functions that help extend battery life and keep the device safe. One of them is the ‘Smart Battery Health Algorithm’ which monitors and controls the maximum charging current and ensures it remains in a safe range and the other is the ‘Battery Healing Technology’ which continuously repairs the electrodes during charging cycles. OnePlus claims that the combination of both will help the phone retain up to 80 percent of its original capacity after 1600 charge cycles which translates into around four years of use. The OnePlus 10T will also feature a charging chip that monitors input current and voltage, 13 temperature sensors, and a 128-bit encryption algorithm that ensures only official SUPERVOOC chargers and cables can charge the device at the maximum supported speeds. The OnePlus 10T will also come with a new version of OxygenOS that should have a battery tool.
