“It is not yet known where the initial shooting occurred, but the vehicle with the two victims inside was pulled over westbound on Highway 1 in Burnaby,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj in an emailed statement. “The shooting is believed to be connected to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.” Kalandz said one of the men in the car called police at the Kensington Freeway exit around 2:30 p.m. The driver was shot, but is expected to survive. Police are working to determine where the shooting occurred and how far the two victims traveled in their vehicle before the driver decided to pull over. A vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting was found burning on Eastlawn Drive in Burnaby. The westbound Kensington exit of the 1 is expected to be closed for a few hours as police continue to gather evidence and investigate what happened.
