Emergency services rushed to Blandford Street and the teen was rushed to hospital. He was released this morning and police are continuing their investigation.
The video, which was shot around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night, shows a section of Blandford Street that was filmed by police between Cavendish Street and Oldham Road. At least two police vans are present, with one police officer staffing the block at the junction with Cavendish Street. Many residents who spoke at Manchester Evening Newsthey were unaware of the incident that took place last night. A woman living on Blandford Street was saddened to hear another young man being stabbed. “A teenager … I do not know what is happening,” he said. One told MEN that police said they had checked for knives in bushes in the area, while another witness said they had seen blood on the ground in the blockade area. Blandford Street is close to Millennium Green and Burlington Street, west of Ashton city center. It is an area plagued by anti-social behavior and criminal activity all these years. Last May, residents of Burlington House told MEN they felt like “detainees in our homes” because of the large groups that gathered, the loud noise and the drug trafficking in the area. In November 2017, a gang of 60 youths surrounded a police van and threw fireworks at it, while a resident was attacked outside her home. An eyewitness reported seeing blood on the ground near ASM Cash and Carry (Image: Manchester Evening News) Incidents escalated again last summer after the lockdown eased, and a knife broom at Millennium Green discovered many weapons. Insp chief Lee Broadstock told MEN last August that the GMP was receiving “reports of young people gathering, taking drugs and some criminal damage” in the area. Anyone with information about Saturday’s knife should contact police online via LiveChat, if possible, or by calling 101. Alternatively, details can be sent anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
