Vladimir Frolov, deputy commander of Russia’s 8th Army, was killed in a battle earlier this week, the country’s second-largest city said in a statement. St. Petersburg Mayor Alexander Beglov attended the funeral, which took place at the city’s historic Serafimovskoye Cemetery on Saturday, the statement said. “Today we are saying goodbye to a real hero,” Beglov said. “Vladimir Petrovich Frolov died a heroic death in the battle with the Ukrainian nationalists. He sacrificed his life so that children, women and the elderly in Donbass would no longer hear bomb blasts. “To stop waiting for death and, leaving the house, to say goodbye to them as if it were the last time.” Frolov is the last of many of Russia’s top soldiers to be killed since Russia invaded Ukraine 50 days ago.
