Author’s Note: An earlier version of this story referred to John Fehr as John Reimer. Modernize The Canadian Armed Forces has confirmed that an investigation is under way into a small plane that was reportedly delayed as of Thursday afternoon. Two people were on board when the plane took off from Delhi, OD. around 3:45 p.m. that afternoon. The missing were on their way to Marathon before the Flight Information Center in London said the plane was delayed. Major Trevor Reid, Senior Public Affairs Officer at the Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Center, confirmed the information to SooToday and said rescue efforts were under way to locate the two missing. “Right now, search efforts are focused on an area about 60 miles (60 kilometers) north of Sault Ste. “Marie,” says Reid. “Since Thursday afternoon, bad weather and heavy snowfall on the ground have made search efforts difficult.” Reed says the rescue team conducted an online search, but was unsuccessful at this point. “Right now, we have an RCAF CC130H Hercules aircraft, a CH-146 Griffon helicopter and a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter involved in the investigation,” says Reid. “We also have an OPP helicopter and a Canadian Coast Guard helicopter that supports it. “Members of the Civil Aviation Search and Rescue Association board some aircraft as observers.” Two men went missing after their flight lost signal over the Wawa area on Thursday night, according to a Facebook post. Original story A search team was sent Friday night to look for the pilot, Brian Slingerland, and his friend, John Fehr. The search continued on Saturday, but poor visibility conditions have made the search difficult to locate, the post said. According to the author of the post, Mary Reimer, who is John’s sister, the two of them were flying from Ontario to Alberta. The post does not indicate where Slingerland or Reimer are from. We will update this story as more information becomes available. Reimer’s original post is as follows: My brother John and his pilot friend were flying from Ontario to Alberta on a newly purchased plane. They managed to get somewhere around Wawa Ontario when their signal was lost. They have been ignored since yesterday afternoon. We gather a search team and they will go out tonight to search all day tomorrow. The weather was not good last night and today is not better. Visibility is very poor. So the helicopters have not yet managed to search properly. At least we are afraid and worried. If you are praying, help us to pray so that it may be found safely.
