Sheridan had celebrated her 93rd birthday earlier this week, Hendon said. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law.
Although she had dozens of movie titles, she was best known as Seinfeld’s loving mother in his honorary comedy series, which ran for nine seasons. She also appeared as the spy neighbor Mrs. Ochmonek in the comedy series “ALF” by aliens.
A trained dancer, Sheridan made her Broadway debut in 1971 on “Frank Merriwell” and appeared in many other productions, including the 1977 musical “Happy End” starring Meryl-Streep, before focusing primarily on film and television. from the 1980s onwards.
Sheridan was also a writer, writing the autobiographical “Dizzy and Jimmy” about her relationship with a young, pre-star James Dean, when the two were aspiring Broadway performers. At the time of her death, she was working to turn the book into a movie, Hendon said.
Sheridan’s death comes two weeks after the death of Seinfeld’s colleague Estelle Harris, who played George Costanza’s mother in the series.
