According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office. Croix, Scott Knudson, deputies were initially called to the Apple River north of the Sunrise Bridge around 3:45 p.m. for a report of a “number of people who had been stabbed”. When deputies arrived, they found five people who had been stabbed and discovered that the suspect had already left the scene by the time they arrived. People on tubes were then removed and deputies began lifesaving measures. Knudson says a total of four people were taken to Regions Hospital for their injuries, with two of them being transported to the hospital. He added that all four – one woman and three men – are believed to be in their 20s. Police at the scene of an investigation in Somerset, Wisconsin on July 30, 2022. Credit: Erik Rognerud Sheriff Knudson says the fifth person, identified as a 17-year-old boy from Minnesota, died in Lakeview. “Chaotic, terrifying, I’m sure anyone who has seen this will never forget it. So it was tragic. I feel really bad for the families,” Knudson said. The suspect — identified by Knudson as a 52-year-old man from Minnesota — was eventually located about 90 minutes after the stabbing occurred and was arrested without incident. Knudson adds that agencies were processing a photo taken by someone who was in the area when the stabbing happened.
He is being held in the prison of St. Croix County, and authorities say they hope to file formal charges sometime within the next week. The names of those involved were not immediately released by authorities. “He was walking around and… pushing people. The first thing I think I saw was someone hitting the rock, you know it cut his stomach, but he actually took out a knife and cut four to five people, it was crazy,” said Kemany Coleman of Maple Grove. Police are asking members of the community to avoid the area as they continue their investigation and gather evidence. Sheriff Knudson said during Saturday’s press conference that he expected crews to search the area for hours as they continued to search for the weapon used in the stabbing. As of this time, police say there is no longer a threat to the community. The investigation is ongoing.
