Shots were fired shortly after 1 a.m. during a barbecue behind a plaza at 154 Harwood Ave., just south of the 401 Freeway.
According to Durham Police, the incident happened during an appreciation party at a restaurant.
Although no one was killed, one of the victims has life-threatening injuries, they said. The rest of the victims are not life-threatening.
The victims have been sent to “different hospitals” across the GTA, said Detective Kristy MacKinnon of the DRPS criminal investigations division.
Speaking to the media at the scene on Monday morning, Duty Insp. Tony Romano said three adult males and three adult females were shot. He did not say whether the shooter and the victims were known to each other.
Police are now looking for a person who fled the scene in a dark-colored, four-door vehicle. No description is available for this person at this point.
Officers are now working to obtain video from the area and want to speak to witnesses.
Medical examiners are also at the scene collecting evidence.
