Environment Canada issued a snowstorm warning for Saturday night to Sunday, where the affected areas could see between 10 and 15 inches of snow. Another cutting system has begun in Montana and will continue to be monitored east on Saturday night, the meteorological service said. Snow warning covers the following areas:
Brandon, Neepawa, Carberry and Treherne. Killarney, Pilot Mound and Manitou. Melita, Boissevain and Turtle Mountain Provincial Park. Morden, Winkler, Altona and Morris. Virden and Souris.
In southern Manitoba, snow will begin to fall Saturday night near the Saskatchewan border, moving eastward into the Red River Valley. Snow will fall from west to east and end in the east by Sunday night, the warning said. The heaviest snowfall is expected for communities south of the Trans Canada highway, where a total of up to 15 cm is expected. Near the turtle mountains and along the southern slope of Pembina, the higher ground could lead to total clusters approaching locally approaching 20 cm. After the passage of the system on Monday morning, winds with gusts of 40 to 50 km / h are expected, which may lead to a snowstorm. The winds will weaken until the afternoon in most of southern Manitoba. Environment Canada warns people to adapt their driving to changing road conditions, as visibility may suddenly decrease.
