Police were called to the school on Thursday afternoon and police were spotted blocking an area east of the school near the DeMamiel Creek golf course. Police say the attack took place during a clash involving a group of young people. An air ambulance was initially dispatched to the scene around 3:23 p.m., but was shut down after crews determined the patient could be transported to the hospital by land, according to the BC Emergency Health Service. Two ambulances rushed to the scene, while one person was transported to the hospital. Mounties say a West Shore police dog was also called in to help with the investigation. In a statement issued late Thursday night, Sooke RCMP said the knife was marked “on a wooded path near the end of Throup Road”. The victim suffered “significant injuries” and another young man was taken into custody without incident, police said. The suspect will be detained until he appears in court, according to the RCMP, who thanked witnesses for providing first aid to the victim until the arrival of the hospitals. “We are grateful to those who took immediate action and provided care to the victim,” said the sergeant. Kevin Shaw, acting squad commander for Sooke RCMP, in the statement. “This seems to be an isolated incident and there is no further danger to the public.”
