After the city demanded private donations or a $ 1 million fundraiser to meet the strategic goal of $ 2.5 million set out in the strategic plan, Sarah Tyre took action and made her intention to donate the entire amount.
“I would like to donate $ 1 million to the new Animal Service Center,” Teare wrote in a letter to City Council.
“As our city continues to grow, I believe an facility like this will help stabilize our position as a top place to live and look forward to being part of this future.”
Teare and her husband own the multibillion-dollar password management company 1Password. She adopted her ex-dog from the local animal shelter and believes in the current center on Burwell Street. does not meet current standards.
“Having had the opportunity to see the new location and design, incorporating a new dog park and trails together, I think this new Animal Service Center would be a great addition to our community,” says Teare.
Teare’s mother, Joan Rymal, advocated for a new shelter during her eight years in St. Louis City Council. Thomas.
“I do not think the city has ever had a $ 1 million donation at any given time,” says Rymal.
“That’s a lot of money and well done. They were successful in their business and you do not need to do such things, so it is highly valued. I am sure that all the citizens of Agios Thomas will be very happy and will appreciate it as well “.

If approved by the council on Tuesday, the plan would be to build the center in the large open space south of the Doug Tarry baseball team.
Vision includes a training center for excursions to learn about animal care, education, biology and interaction with real animals. It would be a necessary upgrade from the current center.
“It means let’s do it right before we think about it,” said Joe Preston, mayor of St. Louis. Thomas.
“It can be done, but the fundraising goal was quite high and it did not seem to work until we got out of COVID and started a fundraising campaign. “Now we have succeeded and it is wonderful to have fantastic citizens of the community like the one who help us with the project.”
Preston believes the piece of property along the Southdale Line is an ideal, well-drained piece of property for a dog park. He calls it the “perfect location” for the park and the center.
Rymal believes that the current center is both outdated and in a bad location.
“It’s stuck right in the middle of environmental services,” says Rymal.
“If someone wanted to come in and adopt a dog or take a dog out, you walk in the middle of a noisy area where there is a plow and an excavator. “There is industry across the street, so we are looking at it more in a residential area.”
There are a limited number of dog parks in the city and none of them are located at the southern end.
“I have a lot of dog friends who really go to Kettle Creek Dog Park and we always talk about how we need another dog park,” says April Sheller, who was walking Leo’s dog on Lake Margaret near the proposed site.
“It would be nice to have one down here because the dog parks are so full every day because everyone goes there and definitely needs an upgrade. So that’s really exciting. “
Lindsay Tremblay’s girlfriend agrees it would be nice, while acknowledging that the current shelter is outdated.
“I think a larger area for dogs to run would be amazing and definitely needs an upgrade,” says Tremblay.
Preston says that after the approval on Tuesday, the plans will go to an architect and a competition and if they can get a builder and supplies, the project could start construction soon.
