The airline tells CP24 that “the system problem across the network has affected check-in and boarding”, resulting in flight delays.
The Sunwing website currently lists dozens of delayed flights, including at least 10 departing from Pearson International Airport.
Most flights are several hours late.
No schedule has been set for normal operation.
“We sincerely regret the impact this has had on our customers’ travel plans and are working diligently with our technology provider to resolve the issue as soon as possible so that scheduled flights can resume,” a Sunwing spokesman said. “Every effort is made to alert passengers to the impact on their flights where possible and we encourage all customers departing the next day to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.”
The spokesman said the system issue was affecting “several carriers worldwide”, including Sunwing.
A traveler who was about to fly to Aruba early this morning told CP24 that his flight was now delayed from 6:15 a.m. until 2 p.m.
However, he said it was unclear whether it would take off as planned.
“Stress. That’s the word, stress. I’m trying to get upset and you know it does not help,” said the man.
Sunwing said anyone with a flight departure within the next 12 to 24 hours should check the status of their flight.
He said he would provide customers with further updates on the issue as he could.
