Knowing your rights

The maintenance of a computer system is the responsibility of the airline itself, said Gábor Lukács, a passenger rights activist. “There may be some really great responsibilities, such as breach, such as internet cables being accidentally cut, but airlines have to have surprises,” he said. When a passenger is delayed or a flight is canceled for reasons beyond the carrier’s control, he said, the passenger owes not only meals, accommodation and fast transport to his destination, but also up to $ 1,000 in financial compensation for inconvenience. “If other airlines are not affected, then Sunwing should buy you a ticket in its own dime on other airlines’ flights,” he said. It also urges passengers to be aware of airlines’ lack of transparency regarding passenger rights. “You do not ask the airline about your rights, you tell them about your rights,” he said. “You are informed independently of what your rights are and then you submit an updated claim to the airline, telling it these are the things you owe me.”
