Law enforcement officials said Dwight C. Henline was arrested at about 4:30 p.m. and transferred to County Island Jail. The arrest comes after the office of San Juan County Sheriff received a warrant for Henline in connection with fire on April 7 in the center of Friday Port. Many services were called to deal with the fire of the four alarms, which lasted for hours. Historic landmarks dating back to the late 1800s were destroyed in the fire, according to Kimberley Kimple of San Juan County # 2 Fire Protection District. On Friday, detectives from the sheriff’s office received information that Henline was at a home in Langley, but could not be reached for comment. The deputies issued an investigation warrant and withdrew a lot of evidence of the arson from the house. Johannes Krieger, founder and owner of Crystal Seas Kayaking at Friday Harbor, was getting ready to do kite foiling on Saturday. Before he could do so, he learned that a man had been arrested who was accused of burning down his business. “Getting out of the water for me is a healing activity that gives me the opportunity to recover,” Krieger said. “And having met that before I do this much better “. Chief Norvin Collins of San Juan Island and Rescue said several services assisted in the investigation, including the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, the city’s fire brigade general, the county fire chief, the ATF and the NRT. “Congratulations to the incendiary dog who appeared as a member of the National Response Team (NRT),” Collins said on Saturday. “The dog hit a few different times and samples were taken. They send them to a lab in Washington, so we do not know exactly what they are. “But it is a flammable liquid.” Collins said the video also shows the fire starting on a deck behind the Crystal Seas kayak. “There seemed to be no indication that it was our immediate target or that of any of our staff,” Krieger said. “But it was still one of those things you just wonder. And you wonder if something else is going to happen. “There is definitely a concern about that.” Krieger opened Crystal Seas Kayaking in 1993. Krieger said his entire building needed to be rebuilt, including a complete interior remodeling. “The building itself will probably be built fairly quickly, but it will take months and years to get into the pace and flow we have had to run this business for almost three decades.” Crystal Seas Kayaking, which also provides cycling and whale watching tours, had to rebuild part of its business in 2013. A fire destroyed the Downriggers restaurant and several other beach businesses in Friday Harbor. “Ironically, our whale watching unit was in the Downriggers building, which burned down a few years ago. So we went through it and we had to learn the lessons of reconstruction. In that case, our section did not actually burn, but was damaged by smoke and water and eventually, the entire building was demolished. That prepared us a little, I guess. “But it does not make it easier,” he said. “I feel really confident that we will be stronger in the long run. It will be a difficult and demanding year, and it will be a difficult and challenging year for all the other companies, staff and everyone else involved. It was truly incredible to see the local community, the firefighters, the law enforcement agencies, the federal agents – all of them, the city is really concentrating and they understood and understood it as fast as they did. He was quite inspiring. “ Collins noted the historical significance of the arson. “You are never going to replace history. It will never be exactly the same. But you will do your best to fit in with the community and many of these styles. “What you can expect is that people have good memories,” Collins said. “So this whole thing, when it turned out to be a fire, made it a lot sadder and more impactful on the community (which has) memories. “You hear people talking about the memories they had growing up or visiting the islands, so you will never replace it. But the community will do its best because we are resilient.” © 2022 Cox Media Group
