The suspect attacked four people inside a home in the 900-block of Granville near Smithe Street, in the heart of the entertainment district, at about 10 p.m. Officers were called by the Vancouver Fire Department after a man set fire to his suite at the home. He then “attacked and stabbed four people inside their building,” said VPD spokeswoman Const. Tania Visintin in an update on the incident on Sunday. “When officers arrived, they were confronted by the suspect who was still armed with the gun. Shots were fired by police and the suspect was injured.” A work crew cleans up after a knife attack at a house in a room next to The Roxy nightclub in Vancouver’s Granville entertainment district Saturday night. While the rental room was adjacent to the Roxy nightclub, management posted a notice on social media saying it had nothing to do with Roxy staff or patrons. However, the club will remain closed on Sunday night. Patrons praised Roxy staff for getting everyone out safely after violence erupted outside. The VPD’s major crime division is investigating, as is BC’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO), which looks at police incidents that result in serious injury or death. Police and the IIO are appealing for witnesses or anyone with a camera or video to contact them.
