Ali Tazeem, 18, was named “the next Amir Khan” and today the boxing world is mourning his death. The Wolverhampton-born athlete was a member of Walsall’s Pound 4 Pound Boxing Academy and spent last week training with Floyd Mayweather Senior. He was nominated as a must-watch, winning 15 international gold medals. Sam Jones, Probellum’s Head of Talent Relations, who signed Ali Tazeem, wrote on Twitter: “I woke up this morning to the news that Ali Tazeem had died at the age of 18. I can not believe it, I can not even I process it correctly. Tazeem had met silver medalist Amir Khan, who said: “He will be the next me and he will write history.” Boxing fans quickly discovered the youngster’s talent, easing his quick reflexes and defensive skills. His record as an amateur includes 45 hits and he had won medals in events such as the Monkstown Box Cup. Tributes to the rising star and condolences to his family, including Dr Tee’s dad, flooded today. The death comes as police call for information about a fatal accident in Wolverhampton. West Midlands police say an 18-year-old died when a car hit a wall in Wolverhampton in the early hours of the morning. ITV News Central asked if the crash was related to Mr Tazeem’s death. West Midlands police have declined to give further details about the crash and it is unclear if the incidents are related. A teenager was killed and the driver of the car was seriously injured in the collision at Chapel Ash on Sunday, April 17. Police are calling for video from the dashcam after the deadly collision on Merridale Road, near the Oaks Drive intersection, around 1.45am. The 18-year-old passenger was confirmed dead at the scene and the driver, also 18 years old, was taken to hospital in critical condition, police said. “Our thoughts are with their loved ones and we will offer them support at this terrible time,” West Midlands police said in a statement. “The blockade remains in place, and the officers of the Serious Conflict Investigation Unit are investigating to find out what exactly happened. We ask people not to speculate at this stage, but anyone with information should contact us as soon as possible.” We are glad to hear from anyone in the area at that time who saw the red Vauxhall Corsa. We look forward to securing any video from the dashboard camera.
