Alison Clem, general manager of la Barbecue in Austin, Texas, said 20 briskets were stolen by someone who jumped a fence around 4 a.m. and ran toward the smoker, according to FOX 7. Clem said she believes the thief planned the theft. “We kind of speculated that he was watching. You know, someone who cooked for us maybe. We haven’t had turnover in our house since we’ve been here so it wouldn’t be current. So it’s also kind of weird that he knew.” Clem said. He said the incident was caught on camera and went on for about 15 minutes. “One of my strongest guys back there can barely lift 10 brisket in a box, and [the thief] he lifted them over his head. So, I really think it was planned.” Clem said. The cost of the meat, according to Clem, is $3,000 when seasonings and labor are factored in, she said. Clem also said that while this is the seventh or eighth time the restaurant has been broken into, it is the first time meat has been stolen. “I can only assume he probably works for a food truck or restaurant. I don’t know, even a party. I have no idea,” Clem said.
