Beachgoer Shane Mannix captured video at Bethany Beach as rain and winds swept the shore. Visitors are seen leaving the beach as strong winds lift umbrellas off the ground and into the ocean. One social media user described the scene as “absolutely revealing”. According to witnesses, the severe weather appeared to appear out of nowhere. Bethany Beach is a small seaside town in Sussex County. With a population of just over 1,000, the summer months bring around 15,000 visitors to its shores. The bad weather came a day after witnesses captured footage of a wave of water crashing into Smith Island off Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. This video, taken by Amy and Daniel Sommers, shows debris flying through the air as the water body neared land.
