Hudson Institute director of China strategy Michael Pillsbury revealed the “cynical reason” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan on “Life, Liberty & Levin.” “Republicans perceived national sentiment about China as a threat,” he told host Mark Levin. “You have the polls that come back — 70%, 80% of the public believes that. And the Democrats were in a bad position. They seemed to be helping China, apologizing for China. Mike Pompeo, Donald Trump — those were champions. Her trip will be “hypocritical” and will not have stopped China’s “100-year marathon” if she rejects all Republican strategies in the country, Pillsbury noted. To her credit, Pelosi was an anti-China human rights activist starting in the 1990s, having almost been arrested in 1991 in Tiananmen Square, she said, adding that the speaker is a “good friend” of the Dalai Lama and helped capture of the Congressional Gold Medal. Potentially like Pelosi, Congress doesn’t seem focused on China either, Levin said. Pillsbury agreed.
