A new organization is trying to help communities and venues deliver sustainable parties in the Gros Morne region. The Atlantic Healthy Ocean Initiative wants to limit single-use plastics such as cups at large gatherings such as festivals, garden parties and weddings. AHOI provides parties with an alternative to plastic cups, using aluminum balls that are reusable and recyclable. Event goers can rent the cup at the start and return it at the end to get their money back. The Harbor Lights Festival in Rocky Harbor was the first event to offer a sustainable party. Our #sustainableparties at the Harbor Lights Festival in #RockyHarbour are off to a great start! He says when they looked at where plastics were a bigger problem, they saw that red solo cups at parties were a bigger issue. They then began looking for options that were recyclable and reusable.
