It was discovered Friday along with several others at the Kamloops Fire Station after scattered lightning strikes in the southern interior. The Keremeos Creek fire was listed at 100 hectares on Friday night, but grew to 150 hectares by Saturday morning. However, in an update Saturday afternoon, the BC Wildfire Service said that due to the aggressive behavior of the fires, it can be assumed that the fire is now at 200 or 300 hectares.

Now considered a large wildfire, part of the fire’s aggressive behavior caused it to jump Green Mountain Road to the east. Story continues below ad BCWS says 18 people are currently on scene, along with four helicopters, construction protection personnel and multiple fire apparatus. “Additional helicopters, ground crews and support personnel are en route and will arrive throughout the day,” BCWS said. He also said the fire is in terrain that air tankers and heavy machinery cannot access at this time. It is also about five kilometers southeast of Apex Mountain Resort. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen confirmed a building was lost, with an official describing it as a cabin or older building.
