A musician from Kingston, Ontario is currently in the province for a tour of shows after his music took hold in the province during the height of the pandemic. Jon McLurg says that when the pandemic first hit in the spring of 2020, many musicians in his area started playing shows via Facebook. McLurg did the same and started playing shows a few times a week. As the shows popularity grew, he noticed that he was getting a lot of support from the Atlantic provinces, including Newfoundland and Labrador. A fan group was even created in addition to his page, which currently has over 500 members. McLurg says he’s not surprised that people from this province and the rest of Atlantic Canada have been so receptive to his music as he plays a lot of acoustic music and covers by artists who hail from Atlantic Canada. Specifically from this province, he cites the late Ron Hynes as someone whose music he plays. The popularity led McLurg to embark on an Atlantic Canada tour that began on July 3. He is currently in that province and says the reception so far has been “amazing”.
