Bottlescrew Bill’s Pub will likely be forced to close two of its five patios for the rest of the season after a minivan crashed them.

No one was injured in the two-vehicle crash around 10:40 Thursday morning. Calgary police had few details, except that a vehicle collided with the minivan, sending it into the yard. Bottlescrew Bill’s is a mainstay at 140 10th Ave. SW for 40 years along with Buzzards restaurant, which was recently retired and turned into a microbrewery. Geoff Allan, general manager of Bottlescrew Bill’s, said there was no damage estimate as of Thursday afternoon. “Thank God there was no one on the sidewalk and the staff, I think, had already swept and cleaned the area next to our facility as they usually do in the morning,” he said. Staff members were preparing indoors for the 11:30 a.m. grand opening when the van crashed into the pub’s expansive street patio and 10th Avenue patio. By afternoon, the demolition had begun. Alan says the watering hole still has a back patio, a flower patio and a main patio in operation, but the loss of the two patios to the crash will take about 50 seats out of operations. “It will have a significant impact on our business,” he said. The brewery also suffered two broken windows. The pub was still open on Thursday and will remain open until repairs are carried out. [email protected] Twitter: @JoshAldrich03
