Wednesday: Multiple rounds of strong thunderstorms as temperatures and humidity rise

Extremely hot and humid conditions are expected Wednesday ahead of the cold front, with daytime highs reaching the low 30s and highs in the 40s for parts of southern Ontario. Cooler temperatures Wednesday night will offer little relief from the heat. Special weather statements are in place for some. Also, the first round of storms will begin developing Tuesday night near Lake Superior and then move south and east through the morning and early morning hours of Wednesday. The exact piece and timing of this first transfer system remains uncertain, but it will be an important piece of the puzzle of how the rest of the day will play out. Additional rounds of storms will fire through midday and early afternoon, fueled by any instability that has rebuilt after the morning storms. These should merge into a line, bringing the threat of torrential rain and damaging winds, but integrated areas of rotation may also be possible. Storms will continue to push eastward into the evening and overnight, with the threat of severe thunderstorms continuing until instability eases after sunset and a cold front clears the area. Be sure to monitor weather alerts throughout the day Wednesday.
