The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) says the first call came in at 1:24 am. Firefighters were dispatched to a three-story hotel in the 700 block of Main Street.
Crews arrived to find that the building’s sprinkler system had already extinguished a fire in one of the suites. They got all the hotspots out and turned off the sprinkler system.
Most hotel residents were able to return to their suites. The city’s Department of Emergency Social Services was called in to assist with anyone displaced.
Then at 3:16 a.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire at a vacant home in the 300 block of Rutland Street.
When they got there, fire crews found a part of the house on fire. They attacked the flames and the fire was brought under control by 4:29 am
Residents from a neighboring house were temporarily evacuated. They were able to return to their home once the fire was out. No injuries were reported.
The causes of the two fires are being investigated. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
